FAQ’s: Why we ask parents not to sit in with their children during the lesson (after the trial class)

It’s important for a parent to step outside and give the student privacy during an online drama class because it allows the student to fully engage, take creative risks, and develop independence without fear of judgment or self-consciousness. Drama requires vulnerability—whether it’s trying out a bold character choice, speaking in a dramatic voice, or expressing strong emotions—and students are more likely to do so freely when they feel they have a safe, private space. Parental presence, even when well-intentioned, can unintentionally create pressure or inhibition, especially for younger performers who may fear being “watched.” Giving them space fosters confidence, encourages autonomy, and mirrors the independence they would have in a live classroom or rehearsal environment. It’s a simple but powerful way to support their growth.
