LAMDA exams: what happens on the day?

We recommend your children participate in LAMDA exams. In class, they will select their module with their teacher and begin work. As the exams approach you will be emailed with information on the date of the exam and the location. You will be able to request a preferred date, and you will be asked to pay the exam fees. Once exam fees have been paid, your child will be entered in for their exam.
Some Points to Consider:
• Location
For some of our schools, we are able to provide exams which take place during the school day. Here we will collect your children and take them to their exam, returning them to their classrooms afterwards.
We also have weekend exams which take place at our exam centre in Harrow, in January and June/July.
Remote exams are also an option which can be arranged for you, whereby your child will take the assessment from home, via Zoom. We can send further information on the remote examination upon request.
Finally, we can also arrange for you to complete exams at LAMDA HQ in central London.
• SEN
Please let us know if your child has any special educational needs, illnesses or disabilities which may affect their performance, as LAMDA will take this into consideration when your child takes their exam. They do need to know 6 weeks in advance of an exam, with documentation to support the application (i.e. an SEN statement, medical note, etc.). Once you have applied for this, it will remain on LAMDA’s records and there will be no need to apply each time your child takes an exam.
• On the day...
On the day your children need to arrive smartly dressed, or in school uniform. For most exams they will need typed up copies of their performance pieces. They need to arrive at least 15 minutes before their exam is scheduled. As their exam draws nearer they will be asked to sit on a chair near their exam room. A bell will ring to signal it’s their turn to go in.
• In the Exam room...
The exam will take place with just the one examiner, and the student. The examiner will ask your child to perform their pieces as they have rehearsed them with us. Once they have finished, they will be asked to sit down and go through some theory questions. The exams last from 10 minutes for little ones, up to 45 minutes for advanced grades.
• Once they’ve finished…
Certificates and report sheets will arrive approximately 6-8 weeks later.
• What happens if I have to cancel an exam?
In the event your child is unwell, and cannot attend the exam, we can apply for a voucher for half of the exam fee credit to be used when booking a reschedule. We would need some paperwork for this -for example a doctor’s note/hospital admission letter etc. If you cannot attend the exam and cancel 6 weeks ahead of the event, LAMDA will typically allow you to reschedule free of charge. If the cancellation is within 6 weeks of the event, we cannot reschedule the exam, as both the examiner’s time and the venue will have been booked and paid for, and so unfortunately the exam fee would be lost.
