A quick reminder that our classes will stop for half term from Monday, May 25th, through Sunday, 31st May.

After half term we'll be straight into our busy LAMDA exam season! I previously emailed the provisional exam timetable to all students participating in the summer term exams.

If you believe your child is booked in for the summer exams but have not received the email or need it resent, please let me know ASAP.

After half term, LAMDA will send me the finalised timetables and I'll pass them on to you.

I look forward to seeing our wonderful students smiling as always on the exam days! In the meantime, I've copied a quick guide below detailing homework and preparation for the upcoming events. If anyone needs the exam criteria resent, please let me know and I'll be happy to help.

Wishing you a lovely half term break when you get there,

Jo and the RM Drama team.

Holiday Homework Guide for upcoming LAMDA exams:

Introductory Pupils (Reception - Year 2, Stage 1 - 3): Please ensure your poem is confidently learnt by heart now and continue working on the facial and vocal expression you have practised with your teacher. For the exam day, you'll need to type a nice neat copy of the poem to give to the examiner, so you could do this now to get ahead. Finally ensure you have your toy (stage 1), picture (stage 2) or storybook (stage 3) packed and ready to practise with your teacher in the mock exam classes after the half term break.

Acting/Shakespeare Pupils: For acting it's always incredibly important to know your monologues really well. Be as confident as possible on the lines, so your focus can be completely upon bringing the characters to life now and practising the staging and physicality you've worked on with your teacher. Take your time, imagine the scene and spend time building the imagined world of your character in your head. Be creative, have fun with your imagination and go for it. Please also practise your theory questions from your exam criteria.

Reading for Performance pupils: Over half term, please type up your poems and book extracts and put them in a folder/booklet (we recommend A5 size for easier handling during the exam). You can decorate the folder with ideas about your chosen theme for added presentation effort. Ensure your intro/link/conclusion is fully learnt now. Practise sight reading your pieces - remember don't learn the books and poems - but keep working on sharing the pieces with eye contact and expression whilst you perform. Go through the staging you've worked on with your teacher. Have fun bringing the characters to life with bold character voice choices, different physicality and posture. Be creative, enjoy it and think about the overall dramatic presentation. Go over theory questions in your exam criteria.

Verse and Prose pupils: Over half term, ensure you have fully and confidently memorised your poems and (if applicable) book extracts. For the poem, think about the rhythm, rhyme and shape of the poem. For the books, think about character voices and your body language/physicality for the characters compared to the narrator. Remember that Verse and Prose has more technical answers for the theory so check you've got your theory answers carefully planned out and approved by your teacher.

Public Speaking pupils: Over half term, please ensure your speeches are fully memorised and you can now deliver them fluently and confidently (you are allowed cue cards with brief notes to help you if you'd like). Please ensure you've made your visual aids - remember to make them nice and big so they are easy to see from the examiner's desk. Keep them mostly visual (avoid much text) and keep them clearly linked to what you are speaking about in your speech - remember to point and use them as you deliver your speeches. Be careful that the materials allow you to put it on a chair/stand and that it can stay upright. Go over your theory answers - and have practise conversations so you are relaxed and confident to discuss your chosen subjects with interest and enthusiasm!
